Quickly Connected: New M16B Circular Connectors with Bayonet Locking
Schalksmühle, September 2026. Lumberg is expanding its circular connector portfolio with Series 04, featuring new circular connectors with bayonet locking. The new locking mechanism enables particularly fast and convenient connection and disconnection – with a short twist instead of time-consuming, cumbersome screw locking. This makes the new variants especially suitable for applications where connections need to be made quickly, easily, and reliably or disconnected on a regular basis.
While based on the classic M16 design, the new Series 04 relies entirely on a bayonet locking mechanism. Plug in, twist, locked: the bayonet lock makes the new M16B circular connectors particularly easy to handle. Unlike a conventional screw-locking mechanism, the connection does not have to be tightened over several turns of a thread. Once the connector halves are mated, a short twist is all it takes to lock the plug and mating connector together. This saves time during assembly, installation, and service while also improving ease of use. The bayonet mechanism offers particular advantages when connections are frequently mated and unmated or when installation space is limited: the connection can be made in just a few simple steps without a time-consuming screwing motion.
Four new versions for different installation requirements
The new M16B portfolio comprises four basic variants. The 0404 is a panel-mount socket with solder terminals for front mounting, while the 0414 is the corresponding panel-mount plug. On the cable side, the 0421 is available as a straight socket and the 0431 as a straight plug. Both feature solder terminals and a bend-protection sleeve and are designed for cable diameters from 4 to 6 mm.
Proven M16 concept – now with bayonet locking
Series 04 adopts all the characteristics of Series 03, which is standardized in accordance with IEC 61076-2-106. The “B” in the designation now specifically identifies the version with bayonet locking.
Variants with 3 to 8 poles are available, in some cases with multiple contact configurations. The connectors are rated for a current of 5 A at an ambient temperature of 40 °C. Depending on the contact configuration, the rated voltage at pollution degree 1 is up to 300 V. The permissible temperature range extends from −40 to +85 °C, and the degree of protection is IP40 when locked with the corresponding mating connector.
Conductors are terminated using proven solder connections. Conductor sizes up to 0.75 mm² (AWG 20) can be accommodated.
